The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Investment Promotion of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Mr. Abdusalam Hadliyeh Omer, met the OPCW Director-General, Ambassador Ahmet Üzümcü on 12 January at the OPCW Headquarters in The Hague.
The Director-General praised Somalia’s decision to have joined the Chemical Weapons Convention and provided him an overview of the work of the OPCW. Underlining Somalia’s commitment to the goals of the Convention, the Minister informed the Director-General of the steps underway in Somalia for the domestic implementation of its obligations under the Convention. In this context, the Director-General assured the Minister of all possible assistance and cooperation by the OPCW. The Minister and the Director-General also discussed opportunities for cooperation between the OPCW and regional as well as sub-regional organisations in Eastern Africa.
