The OPCW and Government of Uruguay co-organised the second workshop on Article XI of the Chemical Weapons Convention (International Cooperation) in Montevideo from 22 to 24 October 2012 for participants from the Latin American and Caribbean region (GRULAC). The workshop was opened by Ambassador Gaston Lasarte, Director of Multilateral Affairs in the Foreign Ministry.

As requested by the Conference of States Parties, the workshop was held to review the activities undertaken by the Technical Secretariat to examine regional needs and priorities. The workshop will provide inputs for future activities under the OPCW’s international cooperation programme, to be considered by the Third Review Conference in April 2012.

The workshop attracted 32 participants from 16 countries in the GRULAC region*, including representatives from governments, National Authorities, academia, research institutions, chemical industry and employee associations.
