On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Entry into Force of the Chemical Weapons Convention and the founding of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), H.E. Mr Mohamed Benaïssa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Morocco sent a congratulatory message to the OPCW and its Director-General, Ambassador Rogelio Pfirter.
In his message to commemorate the occasion, Mr Benaïssa said, “I have the honour to present to you, on behalf of the government of the Kingdom of Morocco, my warm congratulations and my best wishes for success and achievement in your mission”.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Morocco stated that his country “is delighted at the progress made by the OPCW over the last ten years through the accession of 182 States to this multilateral instrument, the destruction of stockpiles of chemical weapons and chemical weapons production facilities in several countries, the holding of eleven Conferences of the States Parties to the Convention, the annual organisation of training courses and workshops, inspections of chemical production units, and the launch of projects of cooperation and assistance with the States Parties, including Morocco.”
In his message, Minister Benaïssa reaffirmed Morocco’s unwavering commitment “to the universal and humanitarian objectives of the Convention.” He noted that the success of the CWC is a “positive step towards establishing peace and security in the world” and reiterated Morocco’s determination to make every effort to honour its obligations and reinforce its cooperation with the OPCW.
