The OPCW Director-General, Ambassador Ahmet Üzümcü, visited Croatia from 20 – 22 September 2015. During his visit, the Director-General met with Ms. Vesna Pusić, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs. He also met Ms. Jasna Ognjanovac, Head of National Authority, Assistant Minister for Multilateral and Global Affairs; and other senior officials.
The discussions concerning matters of mutual interest to Croatia and the OPCW were fruitful and productive. The Director-General expressed appreciation for the Croatian Government’s support for implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention, and he further provided information regarding the programme to destroy Syria’s chemical weapons programme.
The Director-General visited the RACVIAC – Centre for Security Cooperation and held discussions on issues related to the prevention of re-emergence of chemical weapons with Mr. Branimir Mandić, Director of the Centre and his staff. Ambassador Üzümcü also visited the Institute Ruđer Bošković where he was hosted by Mr. Marin Roje, Assistant Director of the Institute. Further, the DG visited the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts and met with Mr. Zvonko Kusić, President of the Academy and some other members.
