The Fourth edition of OPCW’s flagship programme in assistance and protection took place from 26 August to 1 September 2015. Twenty three instructors from 22 States Parties* from all geographical regions received training as trainers at the OPCW Headquarters in The Hague, the Netherlands.
The training was divided into theoretical, practical and table-top segments. The programme that was developed for this specific course was aimed at addressing the main content relevant to assistance and protection training provided under paragraph 7 of Article X of the Chemical Weapons Convention from a train-the-trainers perspective.
This training is aimed at making a more sustainable and efficient use of available resources for capacity building due to its multiplying effect. It also matches the goals of the Instructor Development and Exchange Programme run by the Assistance and Protection Branch of the OPCW, which is directed at enhancing the exchange of skills and protocols in the area of assistance and protection including chemical emergency response, in line with the recommendations of the Policy Making Organs and the provisions of Article X of the CWC.
