A Basic Course for Personnel of National Authorities Involved in the Implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) was held at OPCW Headquarters in The Hague from 14-18 September, 2015. It was the second in a series of basic courses held at OPCW Headquarters this year. The course, with simultaneous interpretation in English and Spanish, focussed specially on States Parties from the Latin America and the Caribbean region. The course was attended by 31 participants representing 29 States Parties*.
The purpose of the course was to assist States Parties in effectively implementing the Convention by enhancing the knowledge and skills of the personnel of National Authorities.
The course had a comprehensive curriculum covering key aspects of the Convention, including historical developments leading to the Convention, an overview of the CWC and OPCW, the role and functions of National Authorities, national implementation measures under Article VII, the Declaration, Verification and Transfers Regime; EDNA and SIX Projects, Science and Technology, Education and Outreach as well as the programmes of the International Cooperation and Assistance Division. The course also included a field visit to the OPCW Laboratory and Equipment Store in Rijswijk.
