A delegation of parliamentarians of South Africa visited the OPCW today for a meeting with Deputy Director-General, Mrs Grace Asirwatham.
During the meeting, the Deputy Director-General discussed OPCW activities related to chemical safety and security and further provided an overview on the status of implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention. The delegation was briefed on progress made in the destruction of chemical weapons stockpiles by remaining possessor States.
The parliamentarians expressed South Africa’s support for the OPCW’s work towards assuring global chemical safety and security, and further noted the importance of collaborative efforts to face the threat posed by non-state actors that may engage in acts of chemical terrorism.
