The OPCW Director-General, Ambassador Ahmet Üzümcü, visited the Czech Republic, 15-16 February 2015, at the invitation of the Czech Government. During his visit, the Director-General met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Lubomír Zaorálek; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Jakub Kuhlánek; Deputy Minister of Defence, Mr Daniel Koštoval; President of the State Office for Nuclear Safety, Ms. Dana Drábová and other senior officials.
In his meetings, Ambassador Üzümcü acknowledged the Czech Republic’s active role in the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention, including its valuable contribution to OPCW training and assistance activities aimed at enhancing international cooperation and capacity-building mechanisms. The Director-General updated Czech officials on progress made in the Syria mission and discussed ways of further enhancing cooperation between the Organisation and the Czech Republic.
The Director-General visited the Training Centre of the State Institute for Protection against Chemical, Biological and Nuclear Weapons in Kamenná. He also delivered a lecture at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
