The Deputy Director-General, Ambassador Grace Asirwatham, represented the OPCW at the 2014 Remembrance Armistice Day in Ieper, Belgium on Tuesday 11 November. On behalf of the Organisation, she laid a wreath at the Ypres War Victims Memorial site and attended the Memorial Service at St. Martin’s Cathedral.
During her visit to Ieper, Ambassador Asirwatham also had a meeting with Mr. Jozef Verschoore, Deputy Mayor of Ieper; with Mr. Breyne Paul, Commissioner General for the Coordination of the Commemoration World War I; and other representatives of federal and local government, regarding the upcoming OPCW event to Commemorate the Centenary of the First Large-Scale Use of Chemical Weapons. The event will be held in Ieper on 21 April 2015.
