The 14th annual workshop to coordinate assistance and protection under Article X of the Chemical Weapons Convention was jointly organized by the OPCW and Spain’s CWC National Authority from 1 to 3 July 2014 in Madrid, with 26 representatives from 22 States Parties* participating.
National Authorities from donor and recipient countries and representatives from the Protection Network, chemical industry, and international organizations like CARICOM and UNICRI, also attended the workshop.
The workshop reviewed the OPCW’s activities in assistance and protection since 2013, including general aspects of Article X, capacity building, and regional coordination issues. Ideas to ensure the full implementation of Article X in a changing security environment were discussed in several interactive sessions involving all participants. An outcome document on the workshop was prepared that will be shared with States Parties during informal consultations on Article X.
