The Government of Belarus and the OPCW jointly organised the second international training for Russian-speaking first responders to incidents involving chemical weapons or toxic industrial chemicals, which was held from 16 to 20 June 2014 with 16 experts from 10 States Parties.*
The training took place at the Institute for Retraining and Professional Development in Svetlaya Roshcha with support of the Ministry for Emergencies, and was a follow-up to a basic level training in Belarus in September 2013.
The course dealt with issues related to assistance and protection against chemical weapons under Article X of the Chemical Weapons Convention. It provided advanced training in the use of protective equipment and in monitoring, detection, and decontamination techniques for responding to attacks with chemical warfare agents, and included both table-top and field exercises. The participating experts were from national emergency response agencies tasked to prevent and mitigate chemical incidents.
