Participants at a regional workshop on Article X and Cooperation in Assistance and Emergency Response, which was held in Indonesia from 8-10 April 2014.
The OPCW and the Government of Indonesia jointly organised a regional workshop for States Parties in Asia on Article X and issues of regional cooperation in assistance and emergency response, which was held from 8 to 10 April 2014 in Nusa Dua. The event was funded by the European Union with 33 participants from 16 State Parties* present.
The workshop offered a forum for participants to discuss the subject matter and share their experiences, with special focus on developing effective regional coordination in the event of a large-scale release of toxic industrial chemicals.
In his opening statement the Director for Basic Chemical Industry of Ministry of Industry Indonesia, Mr. Muhammad Khayam, said the workshop would enhance the national capabilities of participating States Parties in predicting hazards, detecting and decontaminating chemical agents, and providing medical relief and on-site humanitarian response.
As part of the workshop, the participants took part in a table-top exercise to introduce them to tools for formulating and validating emergency response plans.
