The OPCW Director-General, Ambassador Ahmet Üzümcü, visited Moscow on Monday where he met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Sergey Lavrov, and separately with Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov.
During these meetings recent developments in the OPCW-UN Joint mission in Syria and issues related to the maritime operation to remove and destroy Syria’s chemicals outside of the country were discussed, as well as other issues related to cooperation between the Russian Federation and OPCW.
While in Moscow, the Director-General attended an official ceremony at the prestigious Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), where he delivered a keynote address and received an “Honorary Doctor” degree.
The Director General, along with members of the Executive Council, will have additional meetings this week with senior Russian officials in charge of the destruction of the Russian chemical weapons stockpiles.
