The 1-day seminar, held on 12 March, introduced participants to the Chemical Weapons Convention, to the obligations of State Parties, and to the relevant legal framework in Latvia, which ensures compliance with the Convention’s provisions. The seminar directed the attention of chemical industries and scientists to their special role in achieving the objectives of the Convention.
The guest speaker at the seminar was Ms Mina Senior-Faress of the OPCW’s Technical Secretariat in The Hague. Other speakers included officials from the Strategic Goods Export Control Division of the Foreign Ministry, the State Environmental Authorities, and the Customs Authority of the State Revenues Service.
