The OPCW Director-General, Ambassador Ahmet Üzümcü, visited Finland on 4 October 2013 where he met with the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Erkki Tuomioja, and the Undersecretary of State, Jaakko Laajava.
In these meetings Director-General Üzümcü briefed the Foreign Minister and Undersecretary of State on the OPCW’s mission in Syria to verify the country’s disclosure of chemical weapons and oversee the destruction of its stockpile and related materials. He commended Finland for its commitment to the Chemical Weapons Convention and work of the OPCW and was assured of Finland’s continued support.
During his visit the Director-General also delivered an address [PDF 32 KB] at the Finnish Institute for Verification of the Chemical Weapons Convention (VERIFIN) while attending a celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Finnish Research Project on the Verification of Chemical Disarmament.
