On 20 and 21 February 2012 the OPCW Director-General, Ambassador Ahmet Üzümcü, visited Switzerland and held bilateral talks with the Swiss State Secretary and Director of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, Marie-Gabrielle Ineichen-Fleisch, and with the State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Peter Maurer.
In these wide-ranging bilateral talks the Director-General covered developments in science and technology, the OPCW’s programme and budget for 2012, and chemical safety and chemical security issues.
Director-General Üzümcü also visited the Spiez Laboratory to deliver an opening speech to a workshop on Trends in Science and Technology Relevant to the Chemical Weapons Convention [PDF – 36 KB], organised by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). In his remarks the Director-General highlighted the importance of science to the future development of the OPCW and it ability to adapt to meet future needs and challenges.
