Mr Ronald Nelson, 1941-2011
The OPCW Director-General, Ambassador Ahmet Üzümcü, extends his deep condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Ronald Nelson, who passed away on 9 May in his home state of South Dakota, U.S.A.
Mr Nelson’s long association with the Chemical Weapons Convention and OPCW included service as a member of the U.S. delegation at the negotiations on the Chemical Weapons Convention in Geneva and to the OPCW Preparatory Commission, and as a staff member at the Provisional Technical Secretariat and Technical Secretariat between 1993 and 2002. He returned to the Technical Secretariat in August 2005 as Director of Administration, a position he held until his retirement in December 2010.
A book of condolence will be open in the Press Room (Room 0.23) at the OPCW Technical Secretariat until Wednesday, May 18.
