On 5 December 2008, the OPCW Director-General, Ambassador Rogelio Pfirter, received H.E. Mr Grigoriy Alekseevich Rapota, the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation to the Volga Federal District.
During the meeting, Director-General Pfirter provided H.E. Mr Rapota with an overview of the status of the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (Convention) and the efforts undertaken by the OPCW in fulfilling its mandate. Issues pertaining to the Thirteenth Session of the Conference of the States Parties that was held in the Hague from 2 to 5 December 2008 were also covered during their discussion.
Director-General Pfirter expressed his appreciation for the invaluable cooperation provided by the Government of the Russian Federation to the OPCW and looked forward to its continued, active involvement in achieving the objectives of the Convention.
H.E. Mr Rapota on his part reaffirmed the Russian Federation’s unwavering commitment to support the work of the Organisation, including as regards the elimination of the chemical weapons stockpiles declared by the Russian Federation.
