The Foreign Minister of the Republic of Sudan, H.E. Mr Deng Alor Kuol, visited the OPCW on 5 September 2008 and met with the OPCW Director-General, Ambassador Rogelio Pfirter.
During their meeting they exchanged views on the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC). The Director-General recalled Sudan’s current Chairmanship of the Conference of States Parties to the CWC and its active role as an African country in the work of the Organisation. He appreciated the fact that with the exception of three countries, all states in Africa are now members of the OPCW. The Director-General underlined the importance of attaining universality of the Convention and its effective national implementation as necessary elements for its success.
Foreign Minister Kuol reiterated his country’s commitment to the objectives of the CWC and offered support in promoting in Africa the goal of attaining universal adherence to the Convention. He expressed full support for the Director-General’s efforts to promote the objects and purposes of the CWC.
