The Republic of Argentine and the OPCW jointly organised the second workshop on assistance and protection for Member States of Latin America and the Caribbean at the Institute of Scientific and Technological Research for Defence (CITEFA), Buenos Aires, from 31 March to 4 April 2008. The workshop was attended by 43 participants from 21 States Parties, civil protection and first responder agencies of Argentina, and 1 observer from Qatar.

Theoretical presentations were given on issues relating to the CWC including: implementation of article X, individual protective equipment, detection and reconnaissance, down-wind hazard prediction, sampling and analysis of chemicals, decontamination, contamination control stations (CCS) and hazardous materials. A demonstration of Argentina’s emergency response to a chemical weapon incident was also made for the participants and OPCW staff.
