The Netherlands Contributes Voluntary Financial Support

13 June 2002

The Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Host Country of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), has indicated in a letter from the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr Jozias van Aartsen, to the Acting Director-General of the Technical Secretariat, Mr John Gee, that a voluntary contribution of Euro 75,000 will be provided to the Organisation.

In reiterating the strong support of the Netherlands for disarmament and non-proliferation, the Minister has expressed the hope that other States Parties will also consider making a voluntary contribution. “It is us, the States Parties,” Mr Jozias van Aartsen noted, “that play an important role in creating the conditions for the full implementation of the work programme (of the OPCW).” The Minister indicated that the voluntary contribution may be used to fund any item in the 2002 OPCW budget.

The OPCW appreciates this very generous, additional voluntary contribution.
